Zerg 10: Full Circle: 7 (normally it would be easier than Zerg 9, but the lack of geysers in this map made it more difficult than it should have been)
Zerg 3: The New Dominion: 5 (actually, this one is very annoying for a slot 3 level, your mutas are grossly underpowered against the seemingly unlimited number of marines) Zerg 1: Among the Ruins: 3 (I think this could have been easier for a first level for a brand new race to adapt) Terran 10: The Hammer Falls: 6 (actually a big leap in difficulty for newcomers… you need to expand, strong defence, tactical offense) Terran 9: New Gettysburg: 3 (this map is disappointingly easy… the 'toss forces were pathetic) Terran 3: Desperate Alliance: 3 (only because the surprise factor of the last minute Zerg charge, otherwise 2) Maybe it can help others as well, who replay this thing 20 years after release.

I’m in the course of replaying vanilla SC and SC:BW, and made up my own perception of how hard the maps felt to me. The game wasn't necessarily hard, but if you wanted to beat the last few missions before the 2 hour mark, you had to become a master at efficiency and memorize the AI's harassment patterns or else you would just flat out die if you tried to attack at certain times because the AI would send 10 zealots and 6 dragoons each towards your base and overwhelm your static defense. There were some missions where you'd be up against 4-6 AI with every tech imaginable and you'd have!. What made them hard were the ridiculous number of enemy AIs you would be up against with fully fleshed out bases from the start near the end of the game. Right now, this accomplished soul needs some rest. Now, what will I do? Take on StarCraft II champagne on Brütal difficulty. Not that last part though, that was just a jest. If it weren't for you, I'd still be on Terran 8, drinking and sobbing at night.

After 80,000 save files, friendship and tactics, to turmoil and strife, many strategy guides, many sleepless nights of trying to marathon missions, the book closes on this endeavor I've always had at the back of my mind.įuck, I feel like I'm accepting an Oscar. I'd always told myself "Jeebus, I can't even get past Terran 8! How am I going to handle the Protoss campaign, let alone Brood War?"īut I did it. It wasn't even two weeks ago where I booted up Original and tried to get past original's Terran 8 of Original with Duke after watching my brother kick its ass because that was as far as I'd ever gotten. However, I do think this has been one of my greatest accomplishments.
I'm not mentioning all of this to brag, I don't think this makes me special, hell, thousands, if not millions of people have finished Brood War. For me, at least, I'm not sure how hard Brood War is for everyone else, but I well with pride at the thought of after a decade and a half, I mustered up the courage to start pH-phresh from the Boot Camp mission of Original, to the 3v1 madness of Zerg 10. Especially Zerg 8.īut now that I've finished Brood War, this has taught me that I'm capable of so much more. The thing is, Brood War is almost harder than Dark Souls. Not once did I ever think "Hey!
